Day 1 — Ephesus ( Istanbul pickup ~04:00 · İzmir flight · Ephesus ancient city & Virgin Mary · overnight in Kuşadası )
Your private hotel pickup in Istanbul is at around 04:00–04:30 for the short transfer to the airport and the early ~1 hour domestic flight to İzmir. We book the flights and time the pickup to your departure. Your guide and private vehicle meet you in arrivals for the drive to Ephesus, near Selçuk.
The day opens at the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its 127 columns once stood some 18 metres tall; the great Ionic temple is now marked by a single re-erected column among its foundations — your guide reconstructs its scale and the cult of Artemis that drew pilgrims from across the Mediterranean.
You then enter the Ancient City of Ephesus, the best-preserved classical city in the eastern Mediterranean. Walking the marble Curetes Street you reach the ornate Temple of Hadrian and the Library of Celsus, whose two-storey façade — once holding 12,000 scrolls — is the icon of Ephesus. Tickets are arranged in advance.
The route continues to the Great Theatre, a 25,000-seat amphitheatre carved into Mount Pion where St Paul is said to have preached, then past the Scholastica Roman baths and along the colonnaded Harbour Street that once led to Ephesus's silted-up ancient harbour. A lunch break at a local restaurant follows.
The last visit of the day is the House of the Virgin Mary, a small stone chapel on Bülbül Mountain believed to be where Mary spent her final years. A place of Catholic pilgrimage recognised by the Catholic Church as a holy site, it sits in quiet pine woods above Ephesus.
You spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Kuşadası, on the Aegean coast a short drive from Ephesus, with the evening free to rest by the sea. Breakfast at the hotel is included.

    Day 2 — Pamukkale & Hierapolis ( travertines · Hierapolis · Cleopatra's Pool · return flight to Istanbul )
After breakfast you set out on the roughly 3-hour drive inland to Pamukkale, through the olive groves and farmland of the Aegean hinterland, reaching the site before midday.
The morning is spent at the Pamukkale travertines — the “cotton castle” of white terraces that calcium-carbonate-rich hot spring water has built up over the cliff-face for thousands of years. You walk barefoot down the warm, shallow pools (footwear is not allowed on the travertines, to protect them) while your guide explains how the hot springs and the white travertine formed.
Hierapolis was founded in the 2nd century BC under the kings of Pergamon and inscribed by UNESCO alongside Pamukkale in 1988. Your guide walks you along the colonnaded main street to the Temple of Apollo and the Plutonium — the “gate to the underworld” from which volcanic gas still seeps.
Next is Cleopatra's Antique Pool, a thermal spring scattered with fallen marble columns from a Roman portico toppled by an earthquake. The 36°C mineral water is open for swimming among the ancient stones — bring a swimsuit if you'd like a thermal swim among the submerged Roman marble. Entry to the pool itself is optional and paid separately.
A short walk up brings you to the Hierapolis Theatre, which seated around 12,000 and keeps its carved stage building and tiered seating largely intact. In the late afternoon a private transfer takes you to Denizli airport for your evening flight back to Istanbul, where a driver meets you and transfers you to your hotel.

Frequently Asked & Question

Yes — two days is the ideal length for Ephesus and Pamukkale by plane. You fly down to İzmir early on Day 1 for Ephesus, stay overnight on the Aegean coast at a hotel on the Aegean coast, then drive to Pamukkale on Day 2 and fly back from Denizli the same evening. For a longer Aegean trip taking in more of the coast, see our 8-day private Turkey tour. Plan your trip.

Two days is enough to see both properly when you fly rather than drive. Day 1 covers the Temple of Artemis, the Library of Celsus and the 2,000-year-old Ancient City of Ephesus, and the House of the Virgin Mary at a relaxed pace; Day 2 covers the Pamukkale travertines, Hierapolis and Cleopatra's Antique Pool. The overnight in Kuşadası splits the driving and lets you start each site early, before the day-trip crowds.

You fly both ways. Day 1 is a ~1 hour flight from Istanbul to İzmir, then about an hour by road to Ephesus; Day 2 ends with the ~1 hour 10 minute flight from Denizli back to Istanbul. Driving the full loop would be 8 hours or more each way, so flying makes the two-day trip comfortable. This tour includes all domestic flights, hotel pickup in Istanbul and a private vehicle throughout. Plan your trip.

This private tour includes return domestic flights (Istanbul–İzmir and Denizli–Istanbul); one night at the your Kuşadası hotel in Kuşadası with breakfast; a private licensed guide and private vehicle for both days; all entrance fees for Ephesus, the Temple of Artemis, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Pamukkale–Hierapolis site; and hotel pickup in Istanbul and all airport transfers. Lunches, dinners and gratuities are arranged separately. The quoted USD 990 per person is the complete private rate for two sharing. More detail in our Ephesus and Pamukkale travel guides.

This private 2-day Ephesus and Pamukkale tour from Istanbul is USD 990 per person on double occupancy. The rate covers return domestic flights, one night in a Kuşadası hotel with breakfast, a private guide and vehicle for both days, all entrance fees and hotel pickup at both ends. Lunches, dinners, the optional Cleopatra's Pool swim and gratuities are arranged separately. To extend the Aegean over a week, see our 8-day private Turkey tour. For an exact quote, use the trip planner.

You stay overnight in Kuşadası, on the Aegean coast about 20 km from Ephesus, in a comfortable hotel with breakfast included. Kuşadası sits between Ephesus and Pamukkale, so the overnight breaks the journey and puts you by the sea for the evening. We confirm the exact hotel with your quote and can arrange an upgrade on request.

April–June and September–October are the best months for both, with mild temperatures of around 18–28°C — comfortable for walking the open ruins of Ephesus and the Pamukkale travertines. July and August are hot (often 33–38°C) with little shade, so early starts and water help. Winter is quiet and cooler but both sites stay open. More in our Ephesus and Pamukkale guides.

To reserve, complete the form on the Plan My Trip page with your date and group size.
