What the Package Price Covers, and Why the Flight Sits Outside It

Every package price covers the ground from Istanbul Airport on arrival to the departure transfer; the one cost outside it is the UK–Istanbul return, about £180–450. A UK brochure price usually bundles the flight in, so the two are not read the same way. The table sets out both sides.

On ATOL: it is a UK scheme for flight-inclusive holidays sold by UK-based organisers (CAA ATOL protection). These are ground-only packages run from Turkey under TURSAB licence 13538, the Turkish tour operator licence, so ATOL does not apply. The flight you book yourself carries the airline’s own protection, plus Section 75 cover if paid by credit card. A 25% deposit confirms the booking; the remaining 75% is paid on arrival in Turkey.

Which Multi-Centre Pairing Fits Which Break

Istanbul and Cappadocia sit 75 minutes apart by air, which is why every Turkey holiday package sold in the UK is a twin-centre or multi-centre trip. The Aegean sites (Ephesus, Pamukkale) and the Mediterranean coast (Antalya, Fethiye) form a third and fourth block to the south-west, an hour’s flight from either, and Ephesus to Pamukkale is a 3-hour drive. The question for a UK family is how many of those blocks a given break will hold. The table below gives the split we use; every package is built on one of these lines.

Two rules sit behind that table. First, Istanbul never gets fewer than three nights: the Old City takes a full day, the Bosphorus and Galata a second, and the third absorbs the arrival flight. Second, each extra centre costs a travel morning. A third centre on a seven-night break is therefore a compromise; the 5-Day twin-centre with a spare day in Cappadocia is the better week. The three- and four-centre routes belong to breaks that carry at least one weekend on top. Every pairing runs on domestic flights for the long legs and a private vehicle for the rest.

Half Term, Easter and the Six-Week Summer, Break by Break

England and Wales run a six-term year: a week off in the middle of each term, about a fortnight at Christmas and Easter, and six weeks of summer from late July. Scotland breaks for summer three to four weeks earlier and takes its October holiday as one or two weeks, council by council. Northern Ireland has close to nine weeks of summer but cuts its mid-terms to two days. Term dates are set locally, so the gov.uk term-date lookup for your council is the first thing to check. Two notes on these dates. The May half term is the easiest of the three to build: summer weather, the hot air balloon flying on most mornings, and wider availability in the cave hotels. The Northern Ireland two-day mid-terms are too short for a Turkey trip.

Direct Flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh

London to Istanbul is about 3 hours 55 minutes direct. That is the reason a cultural tour of Turkey works on a half-term week from the UK, where the same trip from North America needs a fortnight. Turkish Airlines flies into Istanbul Airport (IST) from five UK airports; Pegasus serves Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side; British Airways runs Heathrow to IST. Turkey is two hours ahead of the UK, so a 07:30 departure from Heathrow lands at 13:30 and leaves the same afternoon free for the Old City. We meet you at either airport, so the choice is yours on price and time of day.

Fares are indicative, taken from airline sites for a Saturday-out, Saturday-back return; they are not a quote. A half-term Saturday from Manchester sits at the top of the band, a Tuesday in early June at the bottom. Book the UK flight only after we confirm the dates, which we do within 24 hours of the deposit. Private Package or Escorted Coach Tour: Where the Price Difference Goes
